Ruben Lopez-Chavez

Ruben Lopez-Chavez ’16, was not sure he could afford college at all and knew he could never travel abroad for school. And yet, as a Chancellor’s Associate Scholar, he had the opportunity to travel to India and visit the Dalai Lama’s private residence. The experience left him committed to the idea that everyone needs to be compassionate contributing members of society. It is a lesson he tries to live out every day.

Lopez-Chavez had the chance recently to tell donors about the impact they had in his life. “Thanks to the Chancellor’s Associates Scholarship program, and to you and to my experiences here at UC San Diego, I have confidence in what I can achieve and I am optimistic about what the future will bring.”
