Chancellor’s Associates Scholars

CA Scholars

The Chancellor’s Associates Scholarship program was established in 2013 by Chancellor Pradeep K. Khosla to improve the pathway for all qualified students to achieve a higher education. Made possible with funding from Chancellor’s Associates, the scholarship program ensures the university can meet one of its most urgent needs and critical priorities — ensuring access and affordability to UC San Diego for local students.

About the Scholarship Program

Through the Chancellor’s Associates Scholarship program, the university provides $10,000 a year for four years at UC San Diego to each eligible student. When combined with the University of California’s Blue + Gold Opportunity Plan—which covers fees for California residents whose families earn less than $80,000 a year and qualify for financial aid—the scholarships effectively provide a full-ride to UC San Diego.

Why the Program was Established

UC San Diego is committed to our local community and the promotion of diversity, equity and inclusion. These scholarships strengthen our efforts to enroll highly qualified local students who will become our future leaders and innovators.

Who can be a Chancellor's Associates Scholar?

The program serves students from Gompers Preparatory Academy, Lincoln High School and The Preuss School UCSD, as well as eligible community college transfer students from San Diego City College, Southwestern College and Imperial Valley College. Since the program’s founding, it has been expanded to include more high-achieving students with financial need, including students from several community-based organizations that help underserved populations, as well as California students enrolled in federally recognized tribes.

How to support Chancellor's Associates Scholars?

All annual gifts to Chancellor’s Associates support the Chancellor’s Associates Scholarship program. In addition, there are several naming opportunities. By endowing a named scholarship fund, you ensure that your gift lives on in perpetuity. A gift of $250,000 or a pledge ($50,000 per year for five years) provides a $10,000 per year scholarship award.

With a named annual scholarship fund, the money is immediately gifted. A $10,000 annual gift per year for four years provides a Chancellor’s Associates Scholarship to one student for four years. Another giving option is to build an endowment while awarding an annual scholarship. For more information, please contact us.
