Volunteer Opportunities

Further your impact on UC San Diego and the San Diego community through these unique volunteering opportunities made available to Chancellor’s Associates donors. Are you looking for a particular way to get involved? Is there an area on campus with which you would like to become more connected? Contact Chancellor’s Associates to discuss your specific volunteer interests.

“Volunteer50 supports UC San Diego’s mission of engaging in public service by connecting our campus community with volunteer opportunities and showcasing the collective impact of our volunteers. Established in 2010 as part of UC San Diego’s 50th Anniversary Celebration, Volunteer50 has become a signature campus tradition.

To participate, register online to join the Volunteer50 community. There you can search for volunteer opportunities, record your service hours and share information about upcoming volunteer events.

Volunteer50’s commitment to service extends to all volunteers who donate their time and talent to give back with any organization—all community service counts towards the 50 hour challenge!”

Birch Aquarium at UC San Diego Scripps Institution of Oceanography

Volunteers welcome guests of all ages, engage them in learning about marine life and our connection to the planet as well as the role we play in conserving it.

Help visitors from around the world discover the wonders of the ocean. Inspire conservation and showcase the groundbreaking research at Scripps Institution of Oceanography.

Annually, more than 300 volunteers guide visitors through exhibits, answer questions, and work behind the scenes. From students and working adults to retired professionals, Birch Aquarium seeks a variety of expertise from volunteers of all backgrounds.

The Preuss School UCSD Mentorship Program

Each school year we look for dedicated UC San Diego students, parents, community members, retired teachers and anyone else interested in volunteering as a tutor. It’s a great and easy way to give back and meet some wonderful students.

We have classes from 6th – 12th grade, which meet from 9am to 4pm. Tutor positions are available in all classroom subjects such as math, science, history, English, Spanish, music and fine arts. Volunteer tutors usually come in for an hour and a half, twice a week (Monday and Wednesday or Tuesday and Thursday).

For more information on Preuss volunteer opportunities, please contact Sandra Gutierrez or call (858) 822-0020.

English-in-Action (EIA) Tutor Program

The International Center’s English-in-Action (EIA) tutor program matches international students, scholars and spouses with volunteer tutors to help our international visitors with conversational English language skills, simultaneously helping them to acquire a better understanding of American culture and to acclimate more quickly to their new environment.

If you have any questions, please contact the Program Coordinator at iprograms@ucsd.edu or visit their website.
