Robert Clayton Lau

Bob Lau has been in the investment banking business for over 50 years. He has been involved in retail and institutional brokerage, investment management, investment banking and investment research.

Lau's experience in the investment business began with training at Merrill Lynch in 1962. He became an Account Executive in the Miami office. He was then National Sales Manager and Training Director at The Robinson-Humphrey Company in Atlanta; Branch Manager of the E.F. Hutton office in Atlanta, where he also supervised institutional sales in the Southeastern U.S.; National Sales Manager of Thomson McKinnon Securities in New York; VP of Oppenheimer & Company in New York in structuring public and private offerings; and Branch Manager of Kidder, Peabody & Company Inc.. He became a Certified Financial Planner (CFP) in 1974, and served on the Board of Regents and Faculty of the College for Financial Planning. He trained over 500 CFPs in all 5 sections of the CFP curriculum.

In 1995 Lau founded his own NASD member firm, where, until 2007, he was the Chairman and FinOp Principal. He was founder and President of Fondsfinans Inc., a subsidiary of Fondsfinans SA, Oslo, Norway, and is presently President and CEO of SpareBank 1 Capital Markets Inc., a subsidiary of SpareBank 1 Markets ASA, Oslo, Norway.

Lau acts has been a mentor at Connect/Springboard, and acts as a financial advisor to early stage emerging growth technology and life science companies.

Lau received his BA in Politics and Economics from Yale University. He has been a member of Chancellor’s Associates since 2016 and enjoys painting and traveling with his wife, Pat. They have seven children and sixteen grandchildren.
